Detroiters and supporters came out August 3rd to clean up Detroit as a part of Arise Detroit! Neighborhoods Day.
Over 100 community organizations participated in cleaning up neighborhoods throughout Detroit. One particular organization, Blight No More in Detroit, focused on several blocks in the Bagley Community near W. 7 Mile and Prairie.
They picked up trash and mowed the grass at a large vacant lot on the corner of W. 7 Mile and Prairie, along with homes on Prairie, Monica and Stopel.
Bagley resident Patricia Wells (pictured above) founded Blight No More in Detroit in 2012.
Rochelle, owner of Tips and Toes Nail Salon, was gracious enough to join in on the clean up by sweeping up the grass clippings.
Markia, Lathan, and Greg wielded the lawn mowers with great precision.
Andy was in charge of tackling the edges.
The lot was truly transformed after the clean up was complete.
Mr. Parker handled the weed whacker like a professional.
Greg (pictured in the blue shirt) brought a cooler full of water, pop, and freeze-pops which was very much appreciated.
Young Detroiter Deangelo braved the hot sun and went on to cut many lawns.
Neighborhood resident, Kevin, came out to show support and was nice enough to pose for a photo in front of his beautiful garden.
Jasmine (pictured above) was not only the youngest participant, she was also the hardest worker. 🙂
Patricia and her nephew posed for a last photo to cap off Neighborhoods Day in the Bagley Community.
